LIGHTNING ROSTER 2025

UPDATE: Thursday 30th December

For the by-laws that govern the Lightning roster, please click on the following link: BH Lightning Competition By-Law (BH-BL3) – at 30.10

Thanks for your registration for the Lightning Roster, starting on Monday 3rd November.

We have been really pleased with the response and are sending this email to pass on as much information as we can to enable you to prepare for the the first night of play.

For the by-laws that govern the Lightning roster, please click on the link here – but some notes regards the by-laws:

  • Shuttles – all players are required to provide a share of the shuttles, which for the Lightning Roster is Victor Master 1 (per the Pennant Roster) which are available for purchase at reception
  • Timing – we have booked two and a half hours from 7pm each Monday night to enable all matches to be completed
  • Promotion – at the conclusion of each round of play, the regular player with the highest ranking shall be promoted to the next highest pool. Where a fill-in player is competing, they will be ineligible for promotion. Where all players in a pool are fill-in players, no player will be promoted and the lowest ranking player from the above pool will not be demoted
  • Relegation– t the conclusion of each round of play, the player with the lowest ranking shall be demoted to the next lowest pool. Where the lowest ranking player is a fill-in player, the regular player will still be demoted.

Other roster information:

  • Pools – we have three pools of women and seven pools of men matches (see below)
  • Court allocations – the allocations are shown below but essentially it is women’s Pool 1 on court 1, with W2 on court 2 & W3 on court 3 and men’s Pool 1 on court 4, with M2 on 4, through M7 on court 10
  • Scoresheets – these will be placed on the relevant court for each pool prior to the commencement of play and can be returned to Reception at the conclusion of play
  • Grading – we have done what we believe is the fairest grading based on the knowledge we have, and with the assistance of the Pennant sub-committee. We hope that no-one is offended by their initial grading but that is the beauty of the Lightning Roster, gradings will even themselves out over the five weeks.
  • Fill-ins: if you are unavailable any week of the competition, can you please – as early as you can – advise Wallace via a call to 0488 788 426 or email [email protected]
  • Men’s Pool 6 and Pool 7 – we have five players in each of the pools and to ensure fairness (as players in these pools will play four matches a night rather than three), pools 6 and 7 will play matches of three sets, with each set played to 15 rather than 21
  • Rounds 2 through 5 – we are inputting all of the match data and draws into an electronic system that means you will be emailed the following rounds information as soon as we can line up the data (we are hoping Tuesday or Wednesday following the matches)

If you have any issues, questions or concerns, please contact us via 0488 788 426 or [email protected], otherwise we look forward to everything getting going next Monday.

Thanks

WHAT IS THE LIGHTNING ROSTER?

The Lightning Roster, is a condensed version of the regular roster, with players organised into pools of four, engaging in competitive play.

The top performing player moves up, while the lowest-ranking player moves down, ensuring a dynamic and balanced playing environment.

Each ranking is associated with a court number, with Court 1 being the highest.

FORMAT

The format for this Lightning Roster will consist of “unpaired” doubles (ie: allocated into doubles pairings by the roster team).

Players engage in doubles matches with each player assigned to the court, recording win rates for each match.

The player with the highest overall win rate progresses, while the lowest-ranking player moves down.

So, if there are four players, call them A, B, C, and D, the format would be AB vs CD then AC vs BD then AD vs BC, ensuring that all players get three games per week.
