With the upcoming National Championships, Badminton Hobart is seeking volunteers to assist both Badminton Australia and Badminton Hobart in a number of roles throughout the tournament.

You don’t necessarily need to commit to being available every day of the event, but if any of the below positions are of interest, please email [email protected]

  • Shuttle Control & Match Announcing (position description below or attached here)
  • Bump-in (Friday 11th April) and bump-out (Friday 18th April)
  • First Aid

Reports to Badminton Hobart GM and Championships Referee
Role overview Shuttle Control manages an essential part of the sport of badminton: the shuttles.

Match Announcing conveys information to the players in attendance regards their assigned court in consultation with the Referee.

Key responsibilities SHUTTLE CONTROL

§  Manage the shuttle control function, including diligent record keeping

§  Manage the shuttle storage and distribution

§  Maintain a clean, professional and safe working environment

§  Interface with the officiating team throughout the event as required

MATCH ANNOUNCING

§  Timely match announcement

§  Concise coherent announcements

§  Articulate script/copy reads

§  Accurate name pronunciation

§  Interface with the officiating team throughout the event

Skills, experience and attributes SHUTTLE CONTROL

§  Remain attentive for reasonable periods of time, assisting umpires with shuttle distribution around matches

§  Act in a calm and professional manner when on the field of play

MATCH ANNOUNCING

§  Previous public announcing experience is an advantage

§  Knowledge of name pronunciations
